He wants to know
how are you doing?
like a bloated toad
in the lights, frozen
a worm in the dirt
an alimentary canal
a bitter nut
a bent foot
a bubbling gut
a one-eyed squirrel,
fence-perched
a peculiar entrée
from a new restaurant
an egg in the sun
half the shot
in a shotgun slug
your sometimes-friend
a bump in the rug
Do you think it will storm?
— a fifty percent chance
it will or it won’t.

I love this, I think the rhyming and rhythm is very strong in the second half 'slug/rug' etc - I think that if this rhythm was consisten throughout the poem it would be more striking. 'a peculiar entree from a new restaurant' is lovely imagery - I work in catering so I can picture that so vividly. I would be interested to know your thought processes for creating this poem. x
